Overview
This policy explains what information RV Sort (“RV Sort”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use rvsort.com, how we use it and the choices you have. You can browse RV specifications, compare RVs, view dealer prices and use the payment calculator without creating an account.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Reader discussions. If you sign in with Google to comment, we receive your Google account identifier, profile name and email address. We store your comments, the connection you choose to show (for example, owner or shopper), any reports you submit and our moderation decisions. We never receive your Google password.
- Messages. If you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose and whatever you include in your message. Contact-form messages are stored in our Cloudflare database and delivered to our inbox by email.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as pages viewed (including the page address), approximate location (city or region), device and browser type, how you arrived at the site, and actions like adding an RV to a comparison, opening the payment calculator or clicking through to a dealer listing. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to do this.
- Hosting and security. The site runs on Cloudflare, which also stores contact-form messages and delivers them to us by email. Like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address and basic request information to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. To limit spam on reader discussions, we briefly keep a one-way hashed form of your IP address, not the address itself, as a rate-limit counter.
Information that stays on your device
- Your comparison. The RVs you add to a comparison, including any RV you enter yourself and any floorplan image you upload, are saved in your browser’s local storage. They are not sent to us. If you use “Copy link” to share a comparison, its details are included in the link itself, so anyone with the link can see them.
- Payment calculator. Prices, down payments, trade-in values, tax rates and other numbers you enter in the calculator are calculated in your browser and are not sent to us. If you open a calculator link that includes an RV or a price, that RV or price is part of the page address, which our analytics can record.
How we use information
- To run the site and show RV specifications, dealer prices and comparisons.
- To publish, moderate and protect reader discussions, including preventing spam, abuse and impersonation.
- To understand which pages and tools are useful and improve them.
- To respond to your messages and requests.
- To comply with the law and protect the rights and safety of our readers and the site.
What is public
Approved comments show your Google profile name, the connection you selected, the comment text and the date. Your email address and Google account identifier are never published. Please don’t include private information in comments. See our community guidelines for details.
Dealer and manufacturer links
When you click a dealer listing, manufacturer specification or other outside link, you leave RV Sort. We do not send your contact details to dealers or manufacturers. The site you visit may collect information under its own privacy policy, so please review it before submitting anything there.
How long we keep information
- Signed-in sessions expire after seven days, or when you sign out.
- Hashed rate-limit counters expire automatically, typically within minutes to a day.
- Comment accounts, comments, reports and moderation records are kept while the discussion feature operates, unless you remove your comments or ask us to delete your account.
- Contact messages are kept as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the conversation, and you can ask us to delete them.
- Google Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics retention setting, after which Google deletes it.
Your choices and rights
- You can read the site without signing in.
- After signing in, you can remove your own comments. Replies others wrote may remain.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, such as your comment account, by emailing brent@rvsort.com. We may need to confirm your request comes from the account holder.
Depending on where you live, including California and other U.S. states, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, to object to or restrict certain processing and to complain to a data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights. Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on your consent (for example, signing in to comment), our legitimate interests in running and improving the site, and legal obligations.
Children
RV Sort is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Reader discussions are intended for adults. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use HTTPS, store only a hashed form of session tokens and sign-in challenges, and limit access to moderation tools. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The “Last updated” date above shows when it was last revised. If we make a significant change, such as adding advertising, accounts or email alerts, we will update this page before the change takes effect.
